Mr. Ambassador Wilson visited the Ken Walker University Clinic for Medical Rehabilitation

Mr. Ambassador Wilson visited the `Ken Walker University Clinic for Medical Rehabilitation’ in Adjara Region, Batumi, on Wednesday, 23 January. Along with the representatives of the local government Ambassador Wilson was introduced to the team of the clinic and to the working process.

Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, along with Professor Zurab Orjonikidze,  Chancellor of TSMU and Archil Undilashvili, Director of Educational Programs at Emory University School of Medicine greeted the Ambassador Mr. Wilson. They talked about the issues in the field of physical rehabilitation in Georgia. The meeting was attended by Zaal Mikeladze, Minister of Health and Social Affairs of Adjara Autonomous Republic in Georgia, Zurab Tenieshvili -Deputy Minister, Lasha Komakhidze - Mayor of the City of Batumi and Lela Surmanidze – Deputy Mayor of Batumi. 

Since September 2017,  Emory University, in collaboration with Tbilisi State Medical University, Partners for International Development, Inc. and The Coalition for Independent Living, is implementing an USAID project for  “Strengthening Physical Rehabilitation in Georgia”. 

Project objectives are: 1) to strengthen the capacity of existing and emerging physical rehabilitation professionals; 2) to expand access to high quality, affordable physical rehabilitation services and 3) to expand access to and availability of appropriate assistive technology and related services.

Within the framework of the project, Emory University School of Medicine partnered with “Ken Walker University Clinic for Medical Rehabilitation’’ and the Physical Therapy Department of Tbilisi State Medical University to develop a clinical training base for continuing professional development programs.. Physical Therapists and rehabilitation specialists from Emory University are based in Georgia to assist with these programs in order to achieve the ultimate goal of inclusion of persons with disabilities in the country.
