Meeting at the Patriarchate of Georgia

On March 5, 2019, by initiative of the Association of Student Organizations, His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II met with Rectors and representatives of student organizations of more than 30 higher education institutions.  It should be emphasized that this kind of large-scale meeting with the university representatives was held in the Residence of the Catholicos-Patriarch for the first time.  The meeting was attended by: Mariam Jashi, Chairperson of Education, Science and Culture Committee of the Parliament of Georgia; Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri), Locum Tenens, Bishop of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia; Metropolitan Theodore (Chuadze)  and Metropolitan Gerasome (Sharashenidze) Head of International Relations Department of the Patriarchate of Georgia; among them Prof.Zurab Orjonikidze, Chancellor of Tbilisi State Medical University and the representatives of TSMU Students and Alumni Relations  service and Students’ Governing Body. During the meeting the measures taken by the students have been underlined. The students expressed their willing to cooperate more actively with the Georgian Patriarchate and jointly implement important projects. According to His holiness, in cooperation with science, youth and the Church, many useful things might be done for the country; he expressed desire to arrange similar meetings and sharing ideas in the future. "We live in a very hard times of ongoing battle between good and evil. We should do everything to support and be in favor of the good, we should love goodness. In the world there is going a struggle against the Church, we must gather strength to confront it. We must remember that the Church had more difficult periods, but managed to get over with God’s help. The God said: "Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." At the end of the meeting, His holiness called upon close and positive relations between the generations and blessed everyone.
