Prof. Zurab Orjonikidze Chancellor of Tbilisi State Medical Universityand Prof.Gia Tomadze, Professor of TSMU Department N2, paid an official visit to Turkey.

Within the frames of the visit Professors visited the Clinic of Memorial Hospital Network in Istanbul.They visited the Surgery and Transplantology Clinics, got acquainted with management principles of the Clinics  and the set out the ways for further cooperation.

On July 23-25, within the visit, Professor Gia Tomadze participated in the workshop on 3-days seminar on – “practical issues of organ donation and transplantation”. Professor was appointed the chairperson for one of the session. The seminar was organized by the Turkish Transplantation Foundation in Istanbul.It was attended by representatives from 67 countries around the world.In the framework of the event, some important practical issues, including the organ donation after apparent death were discussed.

“The cooperation with the International Transplant Network (ITN) gives the opportunity to create a laboratory of tissue typing in Georgia, which will serve as the base for creation of the database of patients waiting for transplantation. After the seminar, the desire that Georgia to be selected to host the regional seminar dedicated to detection and management of deceased donor, was expressed”-noted Professor Gia Tomadze.
