Evening Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Professor Mariam Grigalashvili

On January 25, 2019, the event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Professor Mariam Grigalashvili, was held at the Tbilisi State Medical University. The event was attended by his colleagues and former students of Professor Mariam Grigalashvili. The Anniversary evening was opened by Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University. He spoke about Prof. Mariam Girgalashvili and noted her special merit before Tbilisi State Medical University. She was the first woman who had a high position in the administration of Tbilisi State Medical University.

She was the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry for 12 years. It should be emphasized that Prof. Mariam Grigalashvili was a World War II veteran. He is considered as a founder of pediatric maxillofacial surgery in Georgia. Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria also noted that Mariam Grigalashvili was his favorite teacher and mentor. Her colleagues, students and family members spoke about the activities, personal merits, enormous contribution towards development of students and medicine as a whole: Prof. Marina Mamaladze Head of TSMU Department of Odontology, Prof. Manana Iverieli Department of Periodontics and Oral Mucosal Diseases, Prof. Tamar Shishniashvili, Head of the Department of Therapy, Direction- Children and Adolescent Stomatology and Prophylactics of Stomatological (Dental) Diseases, Associate Professor Lia Dzidziguri Director of TSMU Givi Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic,  Rusudan kvanchakhadze, representative of the National Disease Control Center,  children of Prof.  M. Grigalashvili: Nino Khvedeliani, maxillofacial surgeon at the TSMU Givi Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic and Manana Khvedeliani, Physician  of Chachava Clinic.

Johi Janashia, Director of Tbilisi's Children Infectional Clinical Hospital, was leading the evening. Lasha Glonti and Ensemble of Culture Center of Tbilisi State Medical University  performed songs at the event. 

At the end of the event, the documentary film "Mariam Grigalashvili's Life and Work" created by initiative of Professor Nana Geladze, Head of TSMU Department of Children Neurology was presented in memory of Professor Mariam Grigalashvili. The Anniversary Evening ended with the performance of "The Death in the Clouds", performed by the theater troupe of Tbilisi State Medical University.
