Prof. Nino Abralava, Director of TSMU Foreign Language Center, Head of Foreign Language Academic Department with an Official Visit to Germany

From 06 July to 20 July, 2018, Prof. Nino Abralava, Director of TSMU Foreign Language Center, Head of Foreign Language Academic Department visited the University of Munster, Germany. TSMU Foreign Language Center of Tbilisi State Medical University, has a long-term partnership  with the University of Munster, including scientific and academic aspects. Professor Nino Abralava discussed the following aspects of cooperation with German partners:

•  Curriculums and textbooks for 2018-2019 academic year. The contents of the programmes.

• Issues related to the development of teachers' skills for sectoral languages and planning organization of specific seminars in German and English languages.

• The perspectives of European Language Certificates - telc in Georgia. (telc certificates may exempt the students,  those willing to start or continue education in German universities, from taking the entrance exams).

The German side expressed readiness to carry out  telc language examinations at the Tbilisi State Medical University once a year (due to the fact that carrying out telc examination is related to much expenses for the university, this project can not be realized at this stage).

In Spring, 2019, the Tbilisi State Medical University is planning to organize an international conference on teaching methods related to medical sectoral, German and English languages with active participation of TSMU students. Foreign colleagues from different countries will participate in the conference. Professor Nino Abraalava met  with  Dr. Alexey Dushin Chief Doctor of the Münster University Clinic (Soest). On behalf of the University Rector and her own behalf  Prof. Nino Abralava expressed thankfullness for fruitful cooperation and cordial support provided to TSMU students. They discussed the details of the visit of  Dr. Alexey Dushin and Dr. Bertram Holinka, Director of Neurology Clinic,  to Tbilisi State Medical University. Dr. Alexey Dushin expressed his gratefulness to Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU for inviting to Tbilisi State Medical University and expressed his desire to meet with him to consider details of future cooperation. It is noteworthy to mention that the agreement with the Clinic reached  by Professor Abralava during her first visit in summer, 2017,  is successful; Since September 2017, every month two students go to Munster University Clinic for passing training course. Our students are provided with free accommodation and three meals.  Within the last ten months 20 students and residents passed clinical training courses at Munster University Clinic. According to Dr. Alexey Dushin, Georgian students are distinguished with high professional theoretical knowledge and high level of language proficiency, the students are highly motivated and organized which caused a satisfaction of the leadership of the Clinic.  He expressed his readiness to invite Georgian doctorate students to conduct joint scientific work. During the business trip, Professor Abralava visited Bonn, where he met with the representatives of the Federal Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs, responsible for issuing permission for employment and clinical training of the students of Tbilisi State Medical University.  During the visit, the emphasis was placed on the importance of cooperation between the Tbilisi State Medical University and medical clinics in Germany. We do hope that this visit will help the students to speed up   getting permission in a short period of time, for passing clinical practice in Germany.
